LA BESSE is 2 kilometres from the picture-postcard village of Saint-Genies which has a wide range of amenities. These include a mini-market, baker, butcher, post office with cash dispenser, local produce shop, restaurant, bar tabac, and garage with fuel sales and repair facilities. There is also a doctor, dentist and hairdresser. Each Sunday morning there is an open-air market in the village square where a wide variety of local produce, fruit, vegetables, wine, foie gras, is always on sale. During the season (July and August) there is an additional market on a Wednesday evening where food and wine can be purchased and tables are set up for open-air al-fresco dining.
For larger shopping expeditions, branches of the hypermarket chains Champion and Leclerc, as well as Intermarche, are only 15 minutes away by car at Sarlat and Montignac respectively. There is a very large open-air market in Sarlat every Saturday.
Half an hour away by car is the picturesque Vezere Valley, of such Pre-Historic significance that it has been designated a United Nations World Heritage Site. The museum and theme park at Les Eyzies is also well worth a visit.
